Westworld duo developing a Fallout TV series at Amazon

And the Hollywood mining of the video game industry continues.

The team behind the HBO hit series Westworld is teaming up with Amazon to adapt Fallout into a television series according to Variety. Jonathon Nolan and Lisa Joy just finished up the third season of Westworld and setting their sights on bringing the Fallout universe to life.

The production will be a collaboration between Amazon Studios, Nolan and Joy’s Kilter Films, and Bethesda Game Studios and Bethesda Softworks.

Fallout is one of the greatest game series of all time,” said Joy and Nolan in a joint statement. “Each chapter of this insanely imaginative story has cost us countless hours we could have spent with family and friends. So we’re incredibly excited to partner with Todd Howard and the rest of the brilliant lunatics at Bethesda to bring this massive, subversive, and darkly funny universe to life with Amazon Studios.”

While it’s still early in the process, the series will stick with the theme of a post-apocalyptic world of 2077 inspired by the 1940s American life. The TV series will retain not only the dark and gritty world of Fallout but also the humor and B-movie-like moments from the game.

“Over the last decade, we looked at many ways to bring ‘Fallout’ to the screen,” said Bethesda Game Studios director, Todd Howard. “But it was clear from the moment I first spoke with Jonathan and Lisa a few years ago, that they and the team at Kilter were the ones to do it right. We’re enormous fans of their work and couldn’t be more excited to work with them and Amazon Studios.”
