Warframe’s Plains of Eidolon update is now live on PC

The highly anticipated Plains of Eidolon expansion for Digital Extremes’ free-to-play sci-fi shooter Warframe is now live for the game’s PC version, bringing with it a host of major new changes, including the introduction of open-world gameplay.

The major highlight of the expansion is undoubtedly the new Landscape map, a massive open outdoor area which players can explore to their heart’s content. Up to 50 players can populate a single instance of the Landscape, and while exploring they can fight roaming enemy patrols, complete quests for the local residents, and even participate in side-activities like mining and fishing. The Landscape map even has a full day/night cycle, and when night falls, that’s when the titular Eidolon, a massive beast which can’t be defeated alone, awakens and roams the map.

Along with the Landscape map, Plains of Eidolon also comes with a new playable Warframe named Gara. According to Digital Extremes, Gara can "manipulates glass to fracture the resolve of her enemies” by utilizing her four unique Warframe abilities. Lastly, the expansion adds a few new weapons into Warframe, including the ‘Astilla’ firearm and the Volnus glass hammer melee weapon.

Plains of Eidolon is available now for free to all Warframe players on PC. Digital Extremes hasn’t yet said when the expansion will be coming to Warframe’s Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions, but it has promised in the past that Plains of Eidolon should make it to consoles before the end of the year.
