Tokyo Game Show 2020 is officially canceled, goes online

The COVID-19 pandemic has taken down another massive game convention. Organizers of the Tokyo Game Show have announced its 2020 convention, scheduled for September 24-27, 2020, has been canceled. The organizers plan to move the convention to an online version.

“Due to the outbreak of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) on a global scale and the situation remains unpredictable in Japan as well, the organizer and the co-organizers have reached this decision after a long consideration to place the utmost priority on the health and safety of visitors, exhibitors and stakeholders,” organizers said in a press release. “We ask for your kind understanding and cooperation.”

The announcement comes after the Paris Games Week cancellation, along with E3, Gamescom, and GDC cancellation announcements earlier this year.

There’s only two major gaming events left in 2020 that have yet to cancel, PAX West, scheduled for September 4-7 in Seattle, and Blizzcon 2020, usually held annually in October.
