Square Enix to focus on Hitman, Final Fantasy properties at PAX East 2016
Gamers hoping to get their hands on the new Hitman and/or Final Fantasy games this weekend at the Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) East will not be disappointed. Square Enix will be at the show with hands-on demos of a number of titles of each blockbuster series.
Hitman – New Episode, VR, and Mobile Content
The highly anticipated sequel featuring everyone’s favorite anti-hero assassin, Agent 47, will be on display at the company booth. The company hasn’t shared any details yet but it’s safe to assume that Episode 1: Boat Party will be available along with Episode 2: Sapienza. The former has been readily available since March 11, while the latter will go on sale on April 26. The new episode finds Agent 47 in a small town in Italy where he must dispatch a scientist working on a deadly virus.
There will also be two other Hitman titles on hand: Hitman GO: VR Edition and Hitman: Sniper - Death Valley Challenge Mode. The former is a turn-based strategy game developed for the Oculus Rift and Gear VR. The action takes place on various, highly detailed dioramas and will focus on strategic navigation and feature classic Hitman tools of the trade.
The latter title is an addition to the popular Android/iOS game already available. The new mode features a new environment that will test players’ trigger fingers as they take down waves of zombie hordes.
Final Fantasy, Just Cause 3, and More
RPG lovers will get their Final Fantasy fix thanks to the Final Fantasy XV Platinum Demo (which we wrote about here) and Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward. Square Enix will inject some life into its six year-old MMORPG with the latter thanks to a new storyline surrounding the city of Ishgard and the Dragonsong War. Attendees at PAX will be the first to fight Sephirot, one of the expansion’s new bosses, and win prizes.
Square Enix will have more to offer for anyone not thrilled by bald, tattooed assassins for hire or groups of heroes with funky names and funkier hairstyles battling great evils. RPG fans will get a chance to try out some of the company’s other RPGs, Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness and I Am Setsuna, the first title by Tokyo RPG Factory.
The Kingdom Hearts series will also make a return with Kingdom Hearts Unchained x (read Unchained Key). The Android/iOS title unlocks a new story connected to the main story in the upcoming Kingdom Hearts III title.
Fans of off-road racing will be able to test drive two new titles. The first, Sebastien Loeb Rally EVO, features nearly 200 miles of accurately reproduced tracks across eight different rallies, five rallycross circuits, and 64 special stages. The second, MXGP2, is based on the 2015 FIM Motocross World Championship and the official motocross game with real tracks, riders, and licensed motorcycles.
Finally, gamers who have been running amok on the fictional island of Medici will get to do it all over again on Just Cause 3: Sky Fortress. The add-on includes a ton of new missions and a new threat: a literal fortress in the sky guarded by robotic drones.
