Sonic the Hedgehog movie sequel gets the greenlight

After a tumultuous production that saw its fair share of criticism from fans once it was revealed, the Sonic the Hedgehog movie is a getting a sequel.

According to Variety, Paramount Pictures and Sega confirmed the sequel was in the works last week and will be written by Josh Miller and Pat Casey and directed by Jeff Fowler, who all worked on the original film. There’s no word if the original cast will be brought back or when production will start.

Sonic the Hedgehog was released in February and made about $306.8 million at the box office, right before the COVID-19 pandemic was forced to shut down movie theaters. The film cost around $80 to $95 million to produce. It was also one of the first 2020 movies to hit digital retailers ahead of schedule.
