Skate 4 announced, Star Wars: Squadrons gameplay shown and everything else from EA Play 2020
E3 2020 might not be happening but EA’s summer press conference still is. EA Play 2020 kicked off this week and it’s full of major announcements from one of the biggest third party developers in the business. Let’s take a look.
We got a look at new changes to season 5 – Fortune’s Favor. A new collection event called Lost Treasures is going to enter the game on June 23. It will include a new limited time mode, armed and dangerous evolved. Snipers and shotguns only with no respawn beacons. You can, however, bring back teammates with a mobile respawn beacon. This new item allows you choose where and when to bring back your teammates. You’ll also be able to get a ton of event exclusive items and Mirage’s heirloom, which is a statue of himself.
Also, Apex Legends is coming to Steam, with full crossplay. That means Origin, Steam, PS4, and Xbox One can all play together. Not only that, but Apex Legends will eventually come to the Switch sometime this fall.
The Sims 4 is now coming to Steam. I’m sensing a bit of a theme here. Many of EA’s Origin only games are now heading to other distribution platforms.
The Sims 4 will be traveling to Steam with every expansion and stuff pack so far.
EA on Steam
Titanfall 2, A Way Out, and Dead Space 3 are now all available on Steam. In addition future EA titles will get Steam releases as well. Command and Conquer: Remastered is also available on Steam now with full mod support.
In addition, EA is now committing to cross-play and multi-console support. Seven new games will come to Switch in the next year. Burnout Paradise will be hitting the platform tomorrow. In addition, Need for Speed: Heat will be getting cross-play.
It Takes Two
A new co-op action/adventure platformer that, according to developer Hazelight, will “blow your f*cking mind away.” A young girl, Rose, is torn between her two parents who are going to get a divorce. She makes two dolls out of clay that interact with fantastical worlds as a way to work out Rose’s emotions. Each game mechanic will be representative of some sort of emotional development. It’s slated for release in 2021.
Lost in Random
Lost in Random is a game with an interesting gothic fairytale Tim Burton-esque aesthetic. A young girl named Even encounters a tragic event that sets her off on an adventure with an anthropomorphic magic d6 called Dicey. Its magical power allows her to change the world of Random, which is normally anything but. Her world is completely controlled. The game will carry a theme of embracing uncertainties and taking chances. It is slated for release in 2021.
Rocket Arena is a rockets only shooter, and it is just as goofy as it sounds. Shoot rockets, ride rockets, rocket jump, rocket surf, use homing rockets, AOE explosive rockets, massive long-range rockets, even magical rockets. It has a ton of different heroes of many different classes, dynamic maps, but most importantly it has rockets, rockets, and more rockets. If you want to get your hands on a new 3V3 hero shooter with a goofy twist, this is the game for you. Rocket Arena will launch on July 14 and its first season will start two weeks later, adding new content such as new maps and new characters. It will also support cross-play on PS4, Xbox One, Origin, and Steam.
Star Wars: Squadrons
If you’ve got an itch that only Star Wars space dogfights can scratch, then EA has you covered. This new 5v5 flight combat sim will allow you to pilot all your favorite vehicles, from X-Wings to TIE Fighters. You’ll be able to control every part of your vehicle. For example, you can divert power from your engines to your weapons and shields. You can use the inertia of space to turn yourself around while retaining forward momentum and attack the enemy behind you. You’ll also be able to fully customize both your fighter and plane (which EA ensures us will be locked behind game progress, not microtransactions.)
The story will also be unique. You’ll create two players, one rebel and one imperial. The story will train you in the game’s basic control, and after you finish it, it will ease you into multiplayer. The standard multiplayer mode is the dogfight mode, which is straight up a five versus five fight. A more complex mode is the Fleet Battle, which includes multi-phase battles that take place in several different areas of space and on planets’ surfaces. The game will be available on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC, and it will be fully cross-play compatible. It will also have full VR support! It’s slated for release on October 2 this year.
Welcome to the sports portion of EA Play, where they showcase the yearly installments of all their sports titles. They had a sizzle real of both FIFA and Madden which, I guess means the focus is on football? The trailer showed players playing on asteroids in space which, I’m sure is really just metaphorical but hey, I wouldn’t mind a round of space football.
Yep, SKATE is back. We didn’t get to see any gameplay but, hey, the announcement is good enough.
That’s it. It was short, sweet, and to the point, but it did include quite a bit of information about every title shown. What are you most excited about? Let us know in the comments.
