  • Free God of War Ragnarok Valhalla DLC Coming Next Week

Maybe next time a Nordic game will come out with a distinct subtitle A surprise appearance from Kratos lit up the 2023 Game Awards, and I’m not just talking about the pretty good Call of Duty burn from his voice actor. DLC was announced for last year’s God of War Ragnarok, which itself was already unexpected. But there’s a kicker on top. God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla is coming out on December 12, 2023. It’s also free. This new content is a direct epilogue to the ending of Ragnarok, with players joining just Kratos and Mimir exploring this series’ take on Valhalla. Is Kratos dead or something? I wouldn’t know; I never played Ragnarok. With more information on Valhalla provided following the announcement via the PlayStation Blog, it looks like this DLC will reframe the modern God of War style as a roguelike. If Kratos is defeated the player will start over, but newly equipped with knowledge and resources that can be traded for permanent upgrades. The nature of these upgrades is not explained just yet. During gameplay, Kratos will have all the weapons and skills he learned throughout Ragnarok. But he won’t have his equipment, specifically armor. Instead, players will have to choose a shield and Spartan Path for each run. Throughout the run, you’ll find Glyphs (for stats), Perks, Runic Attacks, and other goodies that will have an immediate, but temporary impact on the run. While equipment is no longer a factor in Valhalla, you’ll still be able to find armor and use it for cosmetic purposes. The blog post mentions photo mode, so that will be available just like in the base game. And if you’re concerned about difficulty, there will be multiple settings alongside various accessibility options to choose from. While the Valhalla DLC requires a copy of God of War Ragnarok to play, it does not require a completed game save to access. But as we established before this is an epilogue, so you might feel a little lost just jumping in blind.

  • House House brings us another interesting game called Big Walk

There’s no goose in this game, but it’ll prove to be just as endearing and chaotic as Untitled Goose Game. The Game Awards brought us a new trailer from the makers of Untitled Goose Game, House House. We were treated to a funny little song by some even more funny little guys. Truly, I have no clue where this gameplay will take us, but it’ll no doubt be an interesting journey. While the trailer offered little in the way of telling what the game and story are about, it appears to be a multiplayer puzzle game. There’s an interesting juxtaposition of a realistic terrain versus child-like bird creations and somewhat clunky structures. In the beginning, we see just two of these creatures, but we soon join up with two more to go galavanting through the Australian bushland lending the idea that you’ll be able to play with at least three other people. From what we see in the trailer, you’ll be teaming up with friends to solve various puzzles to an unknown end. Even with little given about the mechanics of the game, it looks like it’ll be a fun game to play with friends. Untitled Goose Game hadn’t looked like much on first look either, but when it debuted, it was to an almost cult-classic level of acclaim. Big Walk has some big goose-shaped shoes to fill, but thankfully House House seems to have a new running theme going with avian characters. So, it’ll likely live up to the expectations set forth by its predecessor. Big Walk is set to come in 2025, but there’s no word on which quarter it will be released in or which platforms it’ll be coming to. No doubt, we’ll be getting more information on these funny little guys in the future. The best way to keep up to date and find information is to follow the developers on their X, but you may find some information on their website as well.

  • Windblown Could Be The Successor To Games Like Transistor

Live, Die and Repeat to Varying Success The Game Awards showed off the initial trailer for Windblown—Developer Twin Motion, the studio behind Dead Cells. Windblown is an isometric action game that is a one to three-player experience. Featuring colorful cell-shaded characters that are agile and aided by jetpacks, Windblown could be a brutal experience overall. Boasting lightning-fast gameplay and the promise of taking roguelikes to a whole new level, it certainly looks good. Windblown’s gameplay takes place on a floating village called The Ark. Your characters, Leapers, will take on the Vortex and the deadly Sentinels as they threaten to devour their peaceful world. The Leapers will take on increasingly deadly foes as they harness the powers and abilities of heroes that have fallen before them. These will imbue your Leapers with new skills that will allow them to engage the Sentinels in ways you likely never imagined after the first 40 deaths you dealt with. You and your potential team will take on Sentinels with multiple weapons and fighting styles you can switch on the fly. This will also feature rogue-like elements that will allow players to inherit the skills and abilities of prior characters. Will these be player characters or ways to strengthen and grow the subsequent runs? We aren’t sure yet, but the cute anthropomorphic characters are undoubtedly endearing and will possibly be dying in graphic and brutal deaths, all wonderfully illustrated in beautiful cell-shaded art. Will the axolotl, lizard, and bat be the only characters you get to play as? The trailer’s text also mentions finding your rhythm. There are still a lot of questions out there, but not a lot of answers. Either way, Windblown will be one to look out for, indeed! Windblown will launch in 2024 on PC via Steam.

  • Dave the Diver/Dredge DLC Crossover Coming in Late 2023

Dave and Dredge, together like two other, similar things While the jury may still be out on whether or not Dave the Diver is truly an indie game, the charming underwater adventure is truly getting some DLC. The interesting part is this DLC is a crossover effort with another recent, ocean-themed game, Dredge. On December 15, 2023, the DLC will be adding new content to Dave the Diver, based on the creepy world of Dredge. A brief trailer was shown, showing the two games’ protagonists meeting and Dave encountering some really nasty stuff under the sea. Also, it’s a free update! A press release sent out after the announcement described the content in this odd, yet appropriate crossover. Dave will be able to travel to different spots based on the locations in Dredge, on the lookout for Aberrations. Those of course are the creepy critters populating the source material. Dave will be able to turn these aquatic abominations into new gear and ingredients for new dishes. These new dishes will be for a new customer base coming to Dave’s restaurant, and it sounds like these folks aren’t exactly wholesome. If you have yet to play either Dave the Diver or Dredge, you’re in luck. Both games will be slapped together in the Dredging and Diving Bundle, which will offer both titles together at a discount. That’s just for Steam apparently, so Nintendo Switch users will have to just be happy with the free, new content. The official list of features is as follows, per the press release: A new “Fog” weather event, which introduces the DREDGE content later in the game Drive Dave’s boat similar to DREDGE gameplay, choosing different diving spots Catch Aberrations, unique creatures with diverse attack patterns New night map to explore New weapon, the Drain Gun (can be created using Aberrant material) New “Hooded Figures” to serve at Bancho Sushi using unique dishes created from Aberrant fish

  • Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons Remake Coming Early 2024

The tale is being told again. Opening up the 2023 Game Awards, publisher 505 Games revealed a remake of Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons is on the way. This new take on Josef Fares’ debut work is set to appear on February 28, 2024, for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. A press release following the announcement confirmed Avantgarden as the developer, with a note the project was “endorsed” by Fares. Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons Remake is a full remake of the 2013 original and is being built “from the ground up” in Unreal Engine 5. According to the release, while the game is being rebuilt from scratch, effort is being made to make sure the remake is faithful to the original work. Brothers’ primary gimmick alongside its heavy narrative focus was the central control mechanism. As a single-player game, Brothers had the player control two characters with one controller. That’s intact in Remake, but a two-player co-op is also being introduced for the new version. Co-op was added to the Nintendo Switch version of the original, so this will be the first time players on other platforms can experience the story in this new way. Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons was originally released in 2013 and developed by Starbreeze Studios. 505 Games published and later bought the rights to the title, releasing it for additional platforms over the following years. It was a critical success, earning awards from several organizations including the VGX Awards (now The Game Awards), D.I.C.E., and the BAFTAs. In the game’s story, brothers Naiee and Naia are visited by the ghost of their recently deceased mother. She gives them instructions on how to help their father, who is suffering from a life-threatening illness. From there the pair go on a massive journey, and end up helping different people through their problems in various situations they encounter along the way.

  • Super Smash Bros Ultimate is turning 5 years old, getting new spirits, and Sora Amiibo release date

Everyone stay calm! Super Smash Bros Ultimate is getting new content. This is not a drill. On December 7th, 2023 in Japan (and late in the evening on the 6th here in the US), the official Japanese X (formerly Twitter) account for Super Smash Bros gave some interesting and surprising news: Super Smash Bros Ultimate is getting some sort of new content. Super Smash Bros Ultimate is turning five years old on December 7th, having come out in 2018 (roughly a decade and a half ago, it feels like). So, to celebrate, they announced a couple of things. While we already knew that a Sora Amiibo would eventually show up to round out the final DLC roster from the game, we didn’t yet have a date. They announced that Sora, from Kingdom Hearts, is coming on Friday, February 16th, 2024. Awesome. Somehow the news we've been waiting on for years is the least important part of this announcement, however. They also announced that due to the anniversary, they were doing some additional in-game festivities. Starting off, since their X account and posts are entirely in Japanese, we used Google Translate to figure it out. “Super Smash Bros. SPECIAL” celebrates its 5th anniversary today! Starting tomorrow, we will be holding an in-game event "Thank you!! 5th Anniversary of Super Smash Bros. SP Release" for 5 days. During the period, the experience points and SP you receive after battle will be multiplied by 5, and you can also obtain 5 additional "Snack L". #スマブラSP To break it down, you’ll be able to get 5 times the experience points and SP, as well as receive 5 additional “Snack L”, which would upgrade your fighters in the game. The event will last for five days to stick with the theme. The event will be held from Friday, December 8th to 13th, 2023. It’s great to see some love given to the game so far off from the original release and over two years since the last DLC character, who happens to be Sora, came out. Since the post was on their Japanese account, it’s currently a mystery if we will see it here in the west. We may potentially see a post from Nintendo of America tomorrow detailing the same thing. While there’s not a lot going on for the main celebration, Masahiro Sakurai, the renowned creator of the Super Smash Bros series, had to come along and add to the mystery. He quoted the other post, also on X, and added some extra tantalizing details. His post, when translated, is bigger news: “Super Smash Bros. Ultimate” is celebrating its 5th anniversary today! Has it been that long? It's been so long. thank you very much. It seems that an event with new spirits will be held here (starting in January). What game is it from? Wait, hold up! Did he just say that an event with new spirits in the game will be held “starting” in January? This is big, considering the game has not had any new content for over two years. While he teases that the spirits are coming, he does ask what game it is from. This could be from a newer game or series, or be various characters from already represented games in Smash. If you head to the official Japanese Nintendo blog, they go a little more into detail. Starting in January, as Sakurai mentioned, new spirits will appear. The article goes further by saying this will happen four times. They also plan to hold tag tournaments where you can challenge the Amiibo that you have raised. The important takeaway is that Sakurai’s cogs are spinning again. This could potentially lead to additional 2024 in-game events or, dare I say it, more DLC fighters in the future. Let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves. It’s exciting, however, that Super Smash Bros Ultimate is getting some new content on its own. With games like Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 and Smash Bros tournaments keeping the Smash spirit alive, maybe it's time that we saw some new goodies from the old fighter. I guess we will have to wait until January to find out more details on the new spirits. In the meantime, happy 5th anniversary to Super Smash Bros Ultimate.

  • GTA VI trailer has 107 million views, beating decade-old GTA V trailer in just two short days

It’s clear that there is a lot of hype for this long-awaited installment. Earlier this week, we were treated to the long-awaited Grand Theft Auto VI trailer. Unfortunately, Rockstar Games had to make the decision to drop it early due to the trailer being leaked. But, fortunately, it doesn’t seem to have impacted their numbers. The Grand Theft Auto V reveal trailer from 12 years ago has a whopping 101 million views currently, which is an extremely impressive number! However, it is not nearly as impressive as GTA VI surpassing that in just a couple days since it dropped! As of writing, the trailer has over 107 million views (and counting), after only being out for two days. There’s no doubt that this number will continue to climb in the coming weeks. GTA 6 is easily one of the most viewed game trailers of all time beating out trailers from beloved franchises like The Legend of Zelda and Super Mario, and even doubling Call of Duty’s biggest reveal trailer. Shack News did a full breakdown on their site. It’s really no surprise to see as players have been waiting a long time for the Grand Theft Auto franchise to come back. Seeing a modern take on Vice City has been a massive hype factor for the player base. We’ve covered the trailer from the perspective of our very own Florida man, so if you want to know how accurate the vibes are, you’ll want to catch his analysis. Personally, I think it’s about time that we saw the introduction of a female protagonist and I’m excited to see what Lucia can bring to the table. Needless to say, the first trailer has been met with extreme interest and I have no doubt that any trailers that drop in the future will be met with just as much excitement. Sadly, we won’t be seeing this installment drop until 2025. So, if you still haven’t yet tried the 10-year-old Grand Theft Auto V, you can pick up a copy now for a great price and play GTA Online while you wait. • When will LEGO Fortnite be available to play?

LEGO Fortnite will be available on Thursday! But, what time exactly? Fortnite sickos around the world will be able to enter a whole new world of IP assimilation soon. Starting on December 7, 2023 (tomorrow, as of this writing!), an expansive new mode will launch in the form of LEGO Fortnite. Based on a trailer released earlier today, it seems like in this mode, the entire world of Fortnite as players know it will be reformed into the official LEGO video game style. So when exactly will LEGO Fortnite be available to play? Here’s what we know. If you take a look at the official LEGO Fortnite website, the FAQ doesn’t exactly have detailed answers for, well, anything. It’s kind of hilarious how the thing has like ten drop-downs for each question, each addressed with a different variation of “find out on December 7!” That’s some bold corporate messaging. Anyway, if we take a look at social media, it seems like the in-game shop isn’t updating at the usual time, which could indicate when the LEGO lever is planned to be thrown. If this is the logic we’re using, we can probably expect LEGO Fortnite to go live when the shop updates at 7 a.m. ET/4 a.m. PT on December 7. So, by the time you’ll be up for the day assuming you have a regular, human sleep schedule in North America. As we’ve covered before, LEGO skin variants have already started showing up in peoples’ collections in Fortnite. But when the shop updates you’ll be able to see even more LEGO-flavored content, so get some skins ready if you’re into that kind of thing (or as a great holiday present for your Fortnite-obsessed relative). If you have any other questions about LEGO Fortnite, such as what is actually happening in this mode or how many of your skins you can expect to be converted, you’re out of luck! As the official FAQ states several times, you’ll just have to find out alongside everyone else when LEGO Fortnite launches tomorrow. LEGO Fortnite is of course one piece of the ongoing Big Bang event in Fortnite, which comprises other strange, new content such as a collaboration with rapper Eminem and another new mode, the Psyonix-developed Rocket Racing. • Review: Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion Remastered is a fantastic remaster of an average game

Most fans of Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion will be super excited, everyone else will probably be underwhelmed. Picture this: it's the year 2000, and you've been saving up money all summer mowing lawns for your neighbors so you can snag a copy of Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion from EB Games at the local mall. All of the hands-on previews in your favorite gaming magazines have made it look like it's going to be the best Turok game yet. It has to be...right? It’s now 2023. Nightdive Studios has done something that I never thought I would ever see: they have remastered Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion, which was originally released all the way back in the year 2000. The reason I never figured I would see a re-release is because the game just kind of came and went without as much praise as the first two titles in the series back when it was released. It wasn’t a terrible game, but just not anything special. Despite that, this remastered version is honestly a great looking and extremely smooth remaster, with a rock-solid framerate, higher resolution textures, good lighting effects, and dynamic shadows. Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion Remastered even includes some content that was cut from the original (much like Nightdive Studios did with their remaster of Shadow Man back in 2021). However, they did omit one aspect from the original that will upset a good number of fans: the multiplayer. This might not be a big deal to a lot of potential players, but a lot of the player base spent hours and hours in the 4 player mode as well as bot deathmatches back in their younger days and were hoping to relive some of those memories. The good news is that the presentation of everything else here is top notch. The graphics look crisp and detailed and the sounds and music have been given a lot of love. The sound even has a 7.1 surround sound option this time around! The gameplay in Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion Remastered is fast paced and simple, with players running and gunning through each of the game’s five stages with an arsenal of weapons, such as pistols, rifles, shotguns, grenade and rocket launchers, tomahawks, and even the fan favorite from the series: the cerebral bore (which drains an enemy's brain from their skull in gruesome fashion). Absolutely brutal. The weapons that are available depend on which of the two protagonists (siblings named Joseph and Danielle) are chosen to be the next Turok, since their brother Joshua dies during a brief skirmish with some minions sent by the villain Oblivion. Welcome to Oblivion As there are two characters to choose from at the beginning of the game, this means that there are two campaigns to complete. I wish I could tell you that the levels that you have to trek through were completely different during each of the campaigns, but they only marginally differ. Danielle gets a grappling hook early on that she can use to get to spots that Joseph can’t reach, while he gets some Night Vision Goggles that can help him see in the dark. Also, his smaller stature allows him to crawl through areas that Danielle cannot. The Night Vision Goggles are a bit of an eyesore, but thankfully there aren’t a lot of sections where their use is required for a prolonged period of time. The enemy roster isn’t massive, but there is enough variety on display here to not get sick of a certain type of enemy before a level has ended. There are plenty of weird alien dogs, military guards, raptors, zombies, voodoo priests, and even weird blob tentacle monsters to go around. Bosses show up in each of the levels too, but they are just often minor roadblocks that take only a short time to dispatch. The majority of them have some sort of puzzle aspect that must be conquered before they can be defeated, but these are relatively easy. The same can be said for the other sections in Turok 3 where an item like a key, fuse, or pass must be found in order to open a door or power something on in order to progress. It’s all really straightforward. Thankfully the level designs are much more simple this time around and not confusing labyrinths like they were in Turok 2: Seeds of Evil. More good news is that I only ran into one minor bug during my playtime. I had trouble with a few ladders when it came to my character not wanting to grab onto them sometimes. This led to a death or two when going down a long ladder. Thankfully, I found that jumping towards the ladder would usually trigger the climbing animation, but hopefully this can get patched. Aside from that, the game worked as intended and was really smooth overall. As mentioned, the original game was average to begin with, but Nightdive Studios did what they could. The lost world of the past Another aspect about the campaigns that might disappoint players are their lengths. I was able to beat both of them in around 6 hours. While this isn’t too bad for an old shooter, there aren’t too many spots in each campaign that differ from one another, so you are really just essentially playing through nearly the exact same game twice. This is a bummer considering how much longer the campaigns for Turok: Dinosaur Hunter and Turok 2: Seeds of Evil were, and how much cheaper their own remasters are(and Seeds of Evil also still includes the multiplayer modes). In terms of bang for the buck, the first two games win every time. Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion Remastered does have some simple and fun levels to go through, and this remaster looks wonderful, but I don’t know if players will want to drop $30 on this title with how little there is here in terms of content. I really hope that Nightdive Studios keep up the incredible work with their remasters because they did a great job here, but the setbacks of the original having such a short length and average gameplay really hold it back from being worth a really high recommendation. Maybe we can get a remaster of Turok: Rage Wars from them in the future. Fingers crossed. Do you have any thoughts about Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion Remastered? Tell us in the comments below, or talk about it on X, Bluesky, Threads, Mastodon, Instagram, and HIVE Social. Don’t forget to tag us in the discussion! And keep an eye on more from GameCrate!

  • Grand Theft Auto VI Trailer: Rockstar Games turns the Florida Level up to 11

Modern Vice City is definitely Miami's South Beach in GTA VI. Oh, and you can find so many alligators. For those that don‘t know, the Grand Theft Auto VI trailer leaked early. Instead of trying to keep everything secret, they dropped the entire trailer on YouTube early. However, there is a lot packed into the minute and a half trailer. So, let’s break it down… from a Floridian point of view. The trailer opens up on Lucia, who we can assume may be our protagonist this time around. Most GTA games tend to have a male playable character (or three in the previous installment). She's generally with an unnamed man, who is likely also playable in the game's story. In any case, her name is Lucia and she appears to be in some sort of correctional facility at the beginning. The music drops in and we’re immediately treated to the waters of the Vice City beaches, modeled after the beautiful South Beach in Miami. But, we’re not looking at Tommy Vercetti’s 1970s era Vice City anymore. This is modern day Vice City, based on Miami, Florida as it looks and feels right now. Looking at various shots, I can’t help but be impressed with how good this looks. I’m from Florida and this is just… accurate. But, what caught my attention early on was the airboat on what looked like a swampier Everglades-esque water. In the real world, the Everglades is a little less than an hour from South Beach, due west. So, this map is likely to be pretty big. In the original Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, the map was limited to just the main part of the city. But, there is every possibility that we’ll be seeing more Floridian landmarks parodied. You get a handful of shots of the beaches, as well as some speedboats that may or may not be part of a race or a chase. And, as you can imagine, there are tons of looks at the Miami, I mean Vice City, nightlife. Plenty of clubs, hangouts, restaurants, and traffic. This is Vice City. There will be a lot of traffic if they want this to be accurate to Miami, however. You get a shot of a big sign that says “Vice”, which feels like a callback to the Vinewood sign in GTA5. And then, just to set the record straight of when this takes place, the GTA VI parody of Instagram starts showing various videos. You get a shot of a dad bod on a boat, the “OfficialPOACH” account showing an alligator being pulled out of a backyard pool, and a dumptruck on a driving car. I’m sure that the alligator walking into a convenience store may feel like something out of some parody Florida Man article, but let me be the first to assure you that that part is incredibly accurate and alligators will absolutely do that. You get some other Florida Man-like shots, such as a man watering his plants in nothing but a T-back thong and a poker dealer's hat. As a Floridian, I wish I could say this was fake, but I’d be lying. In addition, you see mudders from the Thrillbilly Mud Club, a woman in a nightgown wielding two hammers, and plenty of police chases. There seems to be some commotion about thugs on dirt bikes that are “terrorizing” Vice City. Ah, Florida. Throughout the trailer are various shots of Lucia, often with a bandana around her face, alongside an unnamed man. It’s unclear if these shots are before or after her time in the correctional facility. While it's not apparent how big this game will be, seeing the Everglades gives me hope that they'll show off a big chunk of Florida. If they aren't given some sort of appearance in the main game, in the future, I'd love to see DLC or updates based on Tampa Bay, the Florida Keys, or Orlando. I can already mentally picture an argument about where Cuban sandwiches were originated in my head (They're originally from Ybor City near Tampa, not Miami or Cuba as many assume). In any case, this game is going to be wild. Check out the Grand Theft Auto VI trailer on Rockstar Games’ official YouTube.
