Resident Evil Village launching in May, new gameplay revealed
In a special showcase hosted by Capcom and the developers working on Resident Evil Village, the team finally shared a launch date, gameplay footage, pre-order information, and other goodies coming with the game. First things first, Resident Evil Village will launch on May 7, 2021, with pre-orders available now.
With the pre-order of any of the editions, you get the Mr. Raccoon Weapon Accessory, a Survival Resource Pack, and a Resident Evil Village mini-soundtrack if you pre-order from the PlayStation Store.
As for the gameplay, Resident Evil Village sticks with the first person view they introduced in 2017’s Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, and you play once again as Ethan Winters. This time, however, instead of searching for Winters’ wife, you’re searching for his kidnapped daughter in a dark, damp, creepy castle inhabited by vampiric witchy women and creatures.
In Resident Evil Village, crafting has been added to the gameplay where players will be able to create first aid and ammo, and the merchant has returned as well, where players can purchase weapons and other items. And while there will be plenty of different types of weapons to take on the monsters, there are also puzzles and exploration challenges throughout the game.

Anyone who purchases Resident Evil Village will also get Resident Evil RE: Verse, a multiplayer deathmatch mode featuring everyone's favorite characters, good and evil, from the Resident Evil franchise. The game is a celebration of Resident Evil’s 25th anniversary this year and has a cel-shaded look to it. There’s a closed beta kicking off on January 28 and if you’re interested, you can sign up here. Check out the trailer below:
Finally, a Resident Evil Village demo is now available exclusively on PlayStation 5. In the demo, however, you play as “Maiden,” who is tasked with escaping a dungeon. There isn’t any combat or blocking in the demo, so it appears you’ll sprinting and dodging quite a bit.
