Psychonauts In the Rhombus of Ruin is a VR sequel to the original
Psychonauts fans rejoice! Not only are we getting a sequel to the seminal and underrated Xbox and PC platformer, we’re also getting a VR experience that continues the franchise on the HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, and the PlayStation VR later on.
This game will chronicle the events between the first game and the upcoming sequel, and is written and directed by Tim Schafer of Double Fine. This is exciting news for fans of decades of his work, including critical favorites like Grim Fandango, Day of the Tentacle, and of course, the original Psychonauts.
“In Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin, players assume the role of Raz, an intrepid young psychic and fully fledged member of the Psychonauts — an elite group of international psychic secret agents," according to a press release from Double Fine. "Gamers will see through Raz’s eyes in first person, using his various psychic powers to affect the world, and solve puzzles. The power of Clairvoyance will allow players to see through the eyes of others, and explore the environment, whilst other abilities such as Telekinesis and Pyrokinesis will allow them to move things around with the power of their mind...or just set them on fire.”
We’ll keep you posted with our impressions once we’ve had a chance to try it out. In the meantime, check out the trailer to get excited.
