Pokemon Snap is now available on the Wii U Virtual Console
Yet another classic Nintendo 64 title has arrived for the Wii U Virtual Console, and this time it’s a game which is often considered to be one of the most widely beloved amid the Nintendo 64 library: Pokemon Snap.
Unlike more traditional Pokemon games, the goal in Pokemon Snap is to take pictures of wild Pokemon as you proceed through a linear level on an automated track. The game quickly became a hit when it was released for the Nintendo 64, mainly because of its unique premise but also because, back then, it was one of the few Pokemon games available for TV-based consoles as opposed to handhelds (and thus allowed players to see their favorite Pokemon in full 3D glory).
The Wii U Virtual Console version of Pokemon Snap costs $9.99 and should be available as of the time of this writing. However, if you happen to already own the Wii Virtual Console version of Pokemon Snap, there’s no need to buy the Wii U version since the Wii version can be played on the Wii U. And before you ask, no, the Wii U gamepad’s gyroscopic screen cannot be used to take pictures in Pokemon Snap, a missed opportunity if there ever was one.
