Pokémon Snap is coming to the Japanese Wii U eShop

Of all the spinoff games the Pokémon series has spawned, none are as beloved as Pokémon Snap, the 1999 Nintendo 64 title which tasked players with taking pictures of Pokémon instead of capturing them (it was a lot more fun than it sounds). Now, Nintendo is allowing Wii U owners to relive the Pokémon Snap glory days…as long as they live in Japan.

According to this new post on the Nintendo Inquirer website, the Wii U virtual console version of Pokémon Snap will be playable using the Wii U GamePad, the Classic Controller Pro, and the Wii U Pro Controller. It will launch sometime next week, and will retail for about $9 (when converted into American currency).

While Pokemon Snap’s Japanese Wii U release in no way guarantees an eventual western launch, chances are good that if the game’s Wii U port sells well in Japan, Nintendo will at least consider launching it in other regions as well. For now, all American Pokémon Snap fans can do is keep their fingers crossed.
