Pokémon Snap is back, and other news from Nintendo’s Pokémon Presents

While we haven’t gotten a Nintendo Direct in a while, we did get this new presentation that focused solely on Pokémon. We got a new game announcement, info about the new expansions, some mobile games, and much more. If you are a Pokémon fanatic, then check out this news.

Pokémon Smile

Does Pokémon really need to be in every aspect of our life? First, it motivated us to walk. Then it motivated us to sleep. Now it’s motivating us to brush our teeth? Yes, this is for little kids but… is anyone else a little freaked out by a game that you control by brushing your teeth? Or… at the very least aren’t you freaked out that the game’s camera is positioned inside the mouth of the main character! It looks like you vomit up pokeballs to catch pokemon!

Anyway… it’s available now on iOS and Android… if you are into that sort of thing.

Pokémon Café Mix

Pokémon Café Mix is a new Pokémon puzzle game. A bunch of Pokémon icons will drop onto the screen, and it’s up to you to link like icons by swirling them around. It’s a lot like other match-three puzzle games, except the act of linking changes the board, which could open up some interesting gameplay opportunities. Of course, this is a mobile game so it will probably be just difficult enough to get you to blow all your money on microtransactions. Oh, and the “plot” behind this game is that you are running a Pokémon café and the act of swirling around the icons to link them is supposed to mimic the act of mixing up drinks and making food for the patrons.

Like most mobile games these days, there is a meta-game in Pokémon Café Mix. Every puzzle level is actually serving a Pokémon that comes to your café. Successfully serving a Pokémon increases their friendship meter. Increase it enough and they will join the café as staff. Staff members can use special abilities that can help you out in puzzle levels by altering the board and clearing obstacles.

The second part of the meta-game is expanding your café. You’ll earn resources as you complete puzzles which can then be spent on making your café bigger, buying decorations and equipment, and more. Each of these additions then unlocks new puzzles to play by inviting new Pokémon to your café. Then they can become staff and the gameplay loop repeats.

Pokémon Café Mix is available on the Switch, iOS, and Android and will be available soon. You can preorder, preload, and preregister today.

New Pokémon Snap

Now, this is a revival of a classic! Pokémon Snap is back, and this time you will be visiting islands and snapping pictures of way more than the original 151. As before you will have to snap pictures of Pokémon in perfect poses, that you’ll sometimes have to prod out of them using different tools. Unfortunately, they didn’t have many details to share with us as the game is still under development, however, we do know it will be a Switch exclusive. More info should be coming soon.

Pokémon Go

Everyone’s been inside lately so a lot of updates have been made to Pokémon Go to allow you to play inside your home. The app will be updated with more remote raids, increased gift storage, and bonus daily research. In addition, Pokémon Go Fest, the yearly Pokémon Go “convention” where trainers everywhere meet up around the world, will be completely digital this year. Victini is also planned to be available to catch in the game this year. Finally, Mega Evolutions will be entering the game sometime later this year.  Finally, Galarian Farfetch’d can now appear in Pokémon Go and new avatar items are available themed off the first Sword/Shield expansion, the Isle of Armor.

Pokémon Sword/Shield – Isle of Armor

The first expansion for Pokémon Sword/Shield is available today. The Isle of Armor is available now, increasing the size of the Pokémon world and the number of pokemon available to catch. In celebration, a new Max Raid battle will be available featuring Zeraora from Pokémon Ultra Sun/Moon. If one million trainers defeat Zeraora in Max Raid battles, EVERYONE will get a free Shiny Zeraora.

Something to look forward to?

Finally, there is another major Pokémon project that is being worked on. However, we were only given an announcement for the announcement, which will happen on June 24. Be sure to come back then to catch all the news.
