Outriders launching in February 2021

Square Enix has been touting their upcoming co-op shooter, Outriders, since it was announced at E3 2019. While we’ve been able to check out the game a couple of times this, we hadn’t gotten a release until now.

Outriders will launch on February 2, 2021, for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC, with Stadia later in 2021. The game will feature crossplay on all platforms plus free upgrade to PS5 and XSX for players who buy the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game.

Square Enix and developer People Can Fly originally wanted to release the game this fall, but the pandemic put a wrench on those plans.

“COVID-19 has certainly affected our operations over the past months, but the teams have all worked extremely hard to adapt to changing circumstances,” said Toby Palm, Square Enix community manager, on the Square Enix official blog. “While the core game is now in a largely complete state, our testing operations were unfortunately among the most affected by the work-process-restructuring caused by the novel coronavirus. To that end, we need a bit more time to get it right and ensure that the Outriders experience will be as smooth and issue-free as it possibly can be when we launch. It is our utmost priority to give you the best and most complete Outriders experience possible, at all costs.”
