Toxic Destiny 2 “fan” owes half a million dollars to Bungie over harassment

This is why you shouldn’t harass, threaten, or dox people

Bungie

Bungie is a company that you shouldn’t mess with. A Destiny 2 player recently went on a harassment spree towards a community manager for Bungie and Destiny 2 and it didn’t end very well for the guy.

Jesse James Comer went on a one-man crusade to try to ruin the life of the Bungie community manager after Bungie celebrated and discussed the work of a black Destiny 2 creator, Uhmaayyze, last year.

Kathryn Tewson, a paralegal, broke it all down on Twitter. She kept the community manager’s identity out of the conversation, as did the court order. In the court order and Tewson’s Twitter thread, the community manager is called “Doe”, a usual moniker for anonymity.

Comer left anonymous texts and voicemails on the community manager’s phone that were bigoted and terrible. Comer would ask over and over for them to “convince Bungie to create options in its game in which only persons of color would be killed.” Yikes.

But, wait! It gets worse!

Comer couldn’t keep it digital. He had to prove he knew where Doe and his family lived. He proceeded to order an inedible pizza to their door, complete with cash-on-delivery marked.

This isn’t the 1980s anymore. Pizza pranks are not the way to go, especially when you’re threatening and doxing someone in the process. At the time, Comer was anonymous and could have let it go and likely gotten off scot-free. But, his persistence led to his downfall.

Since Doe was under the employ and protection of Bungie the entire time, investigations immediately started. Expensive investigations.

Eventually, Comer was identified. Bungie sued the pants (and shirt, and every other sweaty piece of clothing) off of the guy. Due to the default judgment given by the court, Comer now owes nearly $500,000 to Bungie in damages to pay for the investigation and such.

In the end, we see a happy ending. The bad guy got his comeuppance for once. Moral of the story: Don’t be racist trash and don’t harass people. You can read Tewson’s thread all about the situation here.
