NeatherRealm / WB
Mortal Kombat 1, or Mortal Kombat 12 if you’re counting, has been showing off a ton of content coming alongside its September 19th release. They dropped a video this week during their Kombat Kast livestream that featured an absolute ton of new characters and Kameo fighters.
It’s important to note that playable characters and Kameos are different. Playable characters are the actual playable roster. Meanwhile, Kameos are more like assists that come out and help fight.
Front and center, we’re getting Smoke back for Mortal Kombat 1. Anyone that’s been around the franchise since the early days should know who Smoke is.
Back in Mortal Kombat II (not to be confused with MK 11), Smoke was a hidden character that you could play against. Back then, he was a gray palette swap of Scorpion and Sub-Zero, as a human. He finally became playable in Mortal Kombat 3.
Starting out as a gag character back in Ultimate MK3, Rain also took the stage as a nemesis to Scorpion and Sub-Zero in the video. Rain is a purple and gold-clad Prince, looking to rule Edenia. This game potentially seems to look to flesh out some more lore between the two factions.
Aside from the new playable fighters, we also got four new Kameo fighters shown in the trailer. Cyrax and Sektor make their robotic return. These Lin Kuei cyborgs help Sub-Zero and Scorpion on their way through MK1.
There were also quick appearances of Sub-Zero’s former apprentice Frost and the sharp-witted (and sharp-hatted) Kung Lao.
Every single fighter that showed up in the trailer are all fan favorites. We’re still waiting on Reptile though.
