The Last of Us Part II delayed until May 2020

It was just last month that the folks at Naughty Dog and PlayStation got the hype train rolling for The Last of Us Part II with a release date announcement, February 21, 2020, a new trailer, and some media outlets getting hands-on time with the game. Now, the developer is announcing a delay.

In a post on the PlayStation blog, the game’s director, Neil Druckmann, announced the new release date for the game is May 29, 2020. As with any delay, the reason is the game needs a bit more polish.

“… it was during the last few weeks, as we were closing out sections of the game, that we realized we simply didn’t have enough time to bring the entire game up to a level of polish we would call Naughty Dog quality,” Druckmann said. “At this point we were faced with two options: compromise parts of the game or get more time. We went with the latter, and this new release date allows us to finish everything to our level of satisfaction while also reducing stress on the team.”

Druckmann continued by apologizing to the fans who are anticipating the game and promised that the game will be worth the wait. Read the entire announcement here.
