Injustice 2 officially announced, gets a slick teaser trailer
After an initial series of leaks began popping up yesterday, NetherRealm and Warner Bros have officially unveiled Injustice 2, the sequel to 2013’s Injustice: Gods Among Us.
Along with the unveiling, NetherRealm also put up Injustice 2’s first teaser trailer. The trailer doesn’t include any gameplay, but it does show several of the DC universe’s mightiest heroes duking it out in a place which the narrator refers to as “The Pit.” The contenders include previous Injustice mainstays Superman, Flash, Batman, and Aquaman, as well as newcomer Supergirl. The trailer also seems to tease a new “evolving armor” mechanic in which characters can armor themselves up in the middle of a fight.
According to a press release, Injustice 2 will continue the storyline which began in Injustice: Gods Among Us, with Batman and his allies working to rebuild the shattered world left in the evil Regime Superman’s wake, while other characters work to free Regime Superman from his prison. The press release also says that, in addition to Regime Superman and newcomer foes such as Gorilla Grodd and Atrocitus, an even larger threat will show up as well, ensuring that the stakes are sufficiently raised for the sequel. From a gameplay perspective, Injustice 2 will naturally feature new game modes, and will also allow players to customize each character’s appearance, fighting style, and more.
Injustice 2 will be released for both Xbox One and PlayStation 4 sometime in 2017. More information is expected during next week’s E3 convention. In the meantime, to celebrate Injustice 2’s reveal, those who are still playing the Injustice: Gods Among Us mobile game can unlock special Injustice 2 versions of both Superman and Aquaman by completing a limited-time Challenge Mode event.
