Hitman creators developing new James Bond game
We haven’t seen a James Bond game since 2012’s 007 Legends from Activision. And if we’re being honest, we haven’t seen a solid James Bond game in more than 15 years with 2005’s James Bond 007: From Russia with Love and prior to that 2003’s excellent James Bond 007: Everything or Nothing, both from EA Games. Of course, no James Bond game has had the impact that 1997’s Goldeneye 007 on Nintendo 64 had.
The James Bond video game license has been in limbo for the better part of a decade – until now. IO Interactive, the studio behind the Hitman franchise announced they’re currently working on a James Bond game dubbed “Project 007.” The game will be a wholly original story that follows the origin of the James Bond character. It will not be based on a movie.
“It’s true that once in a while, the stars do align in our industry,” said Hakan Abrak, CEO of IO Interactive, in a statement. “Creating an original Bond game is a monumental undertaking and I truly believe that IO Interactive, working closely with our creative partners at EON and MGM, can deliver something extremely special for our players and communities. Our passionate team is excited to unleash their creativity into the iconic James Bond universe and craft the most ambitious game in the history of our studio.”
“James Bond has a strong legacy in the video game space, with some of the most iconic games of all-time based on the character,” added Robert Marick, MGM’s Executive Vice President Global Consumer Products and Experiences. “Working with our partners at EON and the talented team at IO Interactive, we plan to bring a new take on this legendary franchise to gamers and Bond fans around the world. IO Interactive are masters of crafting living, breathing worlds of immersive storytelling.”
The game is currently in active development with no release window announced. However, the game is being developed for the new generation of consoles, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, and PC. Check out the teaser trailer below:
