Gearbox confirms a new Borderlands is in development

During a panel which was held at last weekend’s PAX East convention, Gearbox Software head Randy Pitchford made an exciting, yet not that surprising, announcement: Gearbox is working on a new Borderlands game.

Rumors of a new Borderlands game first began cropping up early last year, when new job openings at Gearbox were advertised as being directly linked to an upcoming Borderlands project. At the PAX East panel, however, Pitchford outright confirmed the next major Borderlands game’s existence: “It’s no secret. Obviously there is going to be another Borderlands.”

While the main purpose behind the panel was to discuss Gearbox’s upcoming MOBA-esque shooter Battleborn, several other members of the Gearbox team chimed in to talk about what their roles will be for the new Borderlands project. Battleborn’s art director Scott Kester will also serve as art director for the currently untitled Borderlands project (references were made to “Borderlands 3,” but Pitchford said that title wasn’t set in stone), and Gearbox writer Mikey Neumann will pen the game’s script.

While the new Borderlands game is still only in the early stages of development, Battleborn is set to be released on May 3, 2016 for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4, tiding fans of the Borderlands style of humor and action over as they wait for more info on the new game.
