The Game Awards is going virtual on December 10

Despite a worldwide pandemic slowing down the game industry for months and delaying a number of high-profile games, The Game Awards will return this year to celebrate the year in games. This time, however, instead of having a huge blowout ceremony at a venue with a live audience, the event will be held online and streamed on December 10, 2020.

“In 2020, video games have connected and comforted us more than ever, and that makes the 2020 edition of The Game Awards our most important show ever,” said Geoff Keighley, creator/producer/host of The Game Awards, in a statement. “Our team is working hard to deliver an innovative and thoughtful program that celebrates excellence, previews the future, and amplifies important voices that are shaping the future of this medium.”

While there won’t be a live in-person audience for the event, it will be broadcast from three different studios in Los Angeles, London, and Tokyo. The show will feature live award presentations, world premiere game announcements, and live musical performances.

In conjunction with the award show, The Games Awards Sale and The Game Festival will see a number of nominated games on sale for PC and consoles, and playable demos for upcoming games.
