The four voice actors you didn’t know were in Injustice 2
Injustice 2 improves upon its predecessor, Injustice: Gods Among Us, in almost every way, one of which is its expanded roster which contains a sizeable pantheon of new and familiar DC heroes and villains. To help bring all of the game’s characters to life, developer NetherRealm hired a plethora of talented voice actors, four of which you probably didn’t recognize from their voices alone, but who you would very much recognize if you knew of their other work.
Green Lantern – Steve Blum
For Injustice 2, NetherRealm handed the duties of voicing Earth’s ring-bearing protector Green Lantern over to veteran voice actor Steve Blum. If Green Lantern’s voice sounded familiar, that’s because Blum has voiced hundreds of characters across different video games and animated TV/movies. Some of Blum’s more memorable video game roles include Tank Dempsey in the Call of Duty Black Ops Zombies series, Sub-Zero from Mortal Kombat X, Ares in God of War: Ascension, and Abathur from StarCraft II.
Scarecrow – Robert Englund
It is oddly appropriate that NetherRealm would tap actor Robert Englund to voice the DC universe’s master of fear Scarecrow for Injustice 2, mainly because Englund is perhaps best known for his portrayal of another master of fear: the terrifying dream-based killer Freddy Kruger from the Nightmare on Elm Street film series. While Kruger showed up to slice his way through the competition in Mortal Kombat 9, it was the newer version of Kruger from the recent Nightmare on Elm Street reboot film, one which Englund did not star in. Fortunately, Englund’s portrayal of Scarecrow was just as chilling as his time spent in the shoes of Freddy Kruger, which means the prolific actor now has two iconic horror roles under his belt.
Deadshot – Matthew Mercer
You’d be forgiven for not linking Deadshot voice actor Matt Mercer over to his other famous video game role because, unlike the second role, Deadshot doesn’t have a southern accent. Yep, that’s right, much like Robert Englund as Scarecrow, Mercer’s casting as Deadshot was oddly appropriate since he also happens to be the man who voiced the gun-slinging cowboy McCree in Blizzard’s team-based shooter Overwatch. Whether or not the coincidence was intentional, it’s still good to know that Mercer clearly has a talent for voicing dead-eye marksmen with a dry sense of humor.
Green Arrow – Alan Tudyk
The bow-wielding emerald archer has always been known as a more charming and witty member of the DC roster, so when it came time to pick a voice actor for the good old Green Arrow, Alan Tudyk probably felt like a pretty obvious choice. The experienced film and TV actor is probably best known for his role as Hoban “Wash” Washburne in the cult hit show Firefly, but more recently he has appeared in shows and movies like Powerless, Adventure Time, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and American Dad. This is actually the third time Tudyk voiced Green Arrow after having also done so in the original Injustice: Gods Among Us and Turbine’s short-lived DC MOBA title Infinite Crisis.
