Fortnite earned $1.8 billion in 2019
Nielson-owned SuperData released its summary of video games and interactive media for 2019, and once again, Fortnite is back on top. The free-to-play game earned more than $1.8 billion in 2019, which is down from its whopping 2018 earnings of $2.64 billion. SuperData contends that Fortnite’s continued relevance is thanks to its partnerships with major brands including Marvel, Star Wars, and Stranger Things.
Overall, the gaming and interactive media industry earned a record $120.1 billion, with free-to-play and mobile games leading the charge. After Fortnite, Dungeon Fighter Online and Honour of Kings both earned $1.6 billion, followed by League of Legends and Candy Crush Saga with $1.5 billion each.
On the premium games side, FIFA 19 earned $786 million, followed by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Grand Theft Auto V earning $645 million and $595 million, respectively.
