The Evil Within 2 adds a free first person mode

First-person survival horror can be damn scary. Games like Resident Evil 7, Outlast, and Hideo Kojima’s sadly inaccessible P.T. effectively demonstrate the effectiveness of a first person perspective for horror.

You can add The Evil Within 2 to that list, as of today on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. An update released by Tango Gameworks allows you to toggle on a first person perspective straight from the menu at any time, and it changes the game pretty dramatically as you can see in this trailer.

“A lot of players like playing horror games in first-person, so for those who want to see some of the game’s situations through Sebastian’s eyes, it’s a really neat experience," said Tango Gameworks producer Shinsaku Ohara in a press release. "I think exploring Union in first-person makes the scale feel even bigger than it does when you’re in third-person. Also, being able to see our environments and enemies up close allows players to get an even better look at how much effort went into their designs.”

For those of you who played the game on PC, you might have already experienced first person mode via console commands, but for console gamers, this will be a brand new way to experience The Evil Within 2. The addition of this new viewing mode is a great excuse to play this surprisingly excellent survival horror game again.

For those of you who haven’t played it yet, you can check out a free trial to see if it’s your cup of tea.
