E3 2016 social data analysis: Microsoft and Sony impress, but Zelda wins the show

If social media mentions during press conferences at industry events indicate future success, then Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo should do pretty well in the next few years.

Microsoft earned 29 percent of the total number of social media mentions during the seven E3 2016 press conferences, according to Brandwatch, which gathered its data from Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Sony earned the second-most number of social media mentions during the same time period with 19 percent.

In Microsoft’s press conference, the Redmond, Washington-based company unveiled two new Xbox consoles — the Xbox One S and Project Scorpio — and many new games, such as Forza Horizon 3, Dead Rising 4, and State of Decay 2.

However, Sony – which showed off PlayStation VR, God of War, and Spider-Man — earned the most overall E3 2016 Facebook mentions from June 7 through June 14, according to VentureBeat.
