E3 2016 social data analysis: Microsoft and Sony impress, but Zelda wins the show
If social media mentions during press conferences at industry events indicate future success, then Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo should do pretty well in the next few years.
Microsoft earned 29 percent of the total number of social media mentions during the seven E3 2016 press conferences, according to Brandwatch, which gathered its data from Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Sony earned the second-most number of social media mentions during the same time period with 19 percent.
In Microsoft’s press conference, the Redmond, Washington-based company unveiled two new Xbox consoles — the Xbox One S and Project Scorpio — and many new games, such as Forza Horizon 3, Dead Rising 4, and State of Decay 2.
As for the most-mentioned games, Nintendo’s Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild earned the most social media chatter during E3 2016, according to Brandwatch. People mentioned the upcoming fantasy epic around twice as much as Battlefield 1, the second-most mentioned game during the show.
