CES 2021: Otterbox announces line of mobile gaming products
Any way you look at it, cloud gaming is the next big trend in the video game industry and tech companies are trying to find a way to fit in. Enter Otterbox.
Otterbox is primarily known for its collection of protective cases for mobile phones. However, the company is expanding its repertoire to include accessories that cater to the hardcore cloud gamer.
During CES 2021, the company announced its line of gaming products that includes a mobile gaming clip, a gaming case, and controller shells designed for Xbox One and Xbox Series X wireless controllers.
"Gaming is one of the unique spaces where everyone has the opportunity to compete and connect, especially as we are physically distanced. This connection is enhanced with advances in cloud gaming and fast 5G networks," said OtterBox CEO Jim Parke in a statement. "OtterBox is the best in the world at providing trusted mobile accessories, and we're better positioned than anyone to deliver a premium gaming experience. This portfolio and our accessories designed for Xbox marks a major entry into the gaming market for us."
The clip will be available in February starting at $30, but preorders will go live on January 25. What separates Otterbox’s clip from PowerA’s popular gaming clip is the ability for it to detach from the controller and be used as a tabletop stand.
In addition to the mobile clip, Otterbox is also launching a Gaming Carry Case for $45. The case offers space to carry your Xbox controller, a passthrough connection to keep the controller charged up, and a flip stand on the top where you can place your phone when playing.
Finally, Otterbox is also offering an Easy Grip Controller Shell that wraps around your Xbox controller. At $40 each, the shell is made of antimicrobial material that keeps your hands dry from sweat with a no-slip grip.
