Assassin’s Creed movie gets a new teaser clip

We’re less than a month away from the release of the Michael Fassbender-starring Assassin’s Creed movie and now 20th Century Fox has released a short teaser clip from the film to stoke the hype fires.

The below clip is light on action but it does show Fassbender’s character Callum Lynch being introduced to Dr. Sophia Rikkin (Marion Cotillard) who works for the villainous Abstergo Industries. As Lynch is forcefully hooked up to the iconic Animus device, Rikkin explains that what Abstergo wants from him are the genetic memories of his ancestor, an Assassin named Aguilar who lived during the Spanish Inquisition nearly five centuries ago.

It’s hard not to draw parallels between the plots of the movie and the very first Assassin’s Creed game. Lynch appears to be, for all intents and purposes, a surrogate for the character of Desmond Miles and there’s a good chance Rikkin will wind up being his Lucy Stillman (you might even notice that Rikkin doesn’t appear totally on board with forcing Lynch into the Animus in the clip). Here’s hoping that the film will wind up being more than just a slightly modified retelling of the first game.

The Assassin’s Creed movie is set to premiere on December 21.
