2K announces Mafia: Trilogy, remasters and a remake of Mafia games

Last week, 2K Games teased an update about their lauded Mafia franchise would be coming this week. It’s been a few years since 2016’s Mafia III so to keep the franchise’s memory fresh in fans’ heads, 2K has announced Mafia: Trilogy.

Mafia: Trilogy includes Mafia: Definitive Edition, which is remake of the original game, Mafia II: Definitive Edition, an HD remaster of the original game, and Mafia III: Definitive Edition, a “re-introduction” of the original game.

While Mafia: Trilogy is scheduled to launch on August 28, if you purchase the collection today, you will immediately get Mafia II: Definitive Edition and Mafia III: Definitive Edition on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Steam, while Mafia: Definitive Edition will arrive on August 28 on those platforms. The collection will also come to the Epic Games Store and Stadia at a later date. Each game can also be purchased individually.

“The original Mafia made such a lasting impact on how video games can tell serious stories, and we know how much the series' fans still revere it,” said Haden Blackman, President and CCO at Hangar 13. “Nearly 20 years after the Mafia series started, we now have an amazing opportunity to introduce this beloved game to a new generation of players and give longtime fans a chance to relive Tommy's story with a stellar modern presentation, as well as new story elements and gameplay features.”

Mafia: Definitive Edition is a fully rebuilt, remake of the original 2002 game. The game will have an updated script and dialogue, expanded backstories, new cutscenes, gameplay sequences and features. The game engine that powered Mafia III, will be powering Mafia: Definitive Edition.

For the gamers who already own Mafia II on Steam and Mafia III on Xbox One, PS4, or Steam, you will be automatically updated to the Definitive Editions of those games for free.
